Is wiki.ecmascript.org down?

# Axel Rauschmayer (9 years ago)

I wanted to read the following document, but couldn’t access the server: strawman:proxy_symbol_decoupled, strawman:proxy_symbol_decoupled

Does the server still exist? If not, is the document available somewhere else?

Thanks!

Axel

Yes, thanks to the Wayback machine: archive.org/web Direct link: web.archive.org/web/20150908004703/http://wiki.ecmascript.org/doku.php?id=strawman:proxy_symbol_decoupled

Tracked down what was going wrong. We're back up and live. Sorry for such a long disruption, everyone.

This situation still isn't awesome; the wiki is ancient, we're not using it anymore, and we should not be shelling out $ every month to host a legacy PHP wiki! I'll spend a little time this afternoon trying to figure out an easy way to create a static archive.

Thanks,

Got a little proof-of-concept working using Surge at:

http://tc39.surge.sh

Sources at:

http://github.com/dherman/tc39-wiki-archive

Surge's free hosting will let us point wiki.ecmascript.org to this static archive when we're ready, so that we don't have to keep paying every month to host an ancient and abandoned DokuWiki.

Jeff Dyer and I will look at the wiki data and see if we can auto-generate a full frozen archive. Assuming no one else is interested in this project, I think we should set our goals to* bare minimum functionality* required in order to make the switch (readable snapshot + preserved inbound links). The source data can be preserved in a GitHub repo so we don't lose any. But if anyone is interested in taking this archival project on and aiming for a little higher quality rendering, I'd be happy to hand over the reins!

How much does it cost to keep the wiki alive? (Just curious.)
